The BC Securities Commission presented at the Better Business Bureau of the Lower Mainland at the BBB’s Top 10 Scams launch event in Vancouver on March 1.

While not all of the items on the list involve investments, it’s a good idea to have a look at the BBB’s resource to protect yourself from various types of scams.

Binary Options Scams

Doug Muir, BCSC Director of Enforcement, talked about the rise of binary options scams, which are on the 2016 Top 10 Scams list.

“These binary options scams are simply a way for fraudsters to take money from victims,” said Muir.

March is Fraud Prevention Month

The event kicked off the BCSC’s Fraud Prevention Month public awareness campaign. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be in the news and on social media encouraging the public to run a background check on their investment advisor, learn the Fraud Warning Signs, and stay away from binary options.
