There have been a number of these new ashtrays being installed around Gauteng to help with the new smoking legislation and to promote a butt free South Africa.

The South African Government has recently passed the new smoking legislation, as I am sure that you are well aware of. If not, basically the new law states that: No smoking in ‘partially enclosed’ public places, such as covered patios, verandas, balconies, walkways and parking areas. Adults may not smoke in a car when a passenger under 12 years is present. No person under 18 may be allowed into a designated smoking area. An increase in the fines for smoking or allowing smoking in a non-smoking area.

South Africa is following a global trend to crackdown on smoking and follows a world movement towards cleaner air. I think that the new law is going to be a step in the right direction in achieving their goals. But in saying this, the new Law is going to have a huge impact on the amount of cigarette litter outside buildings, shopping centre and any public area. All smokers are now going to be smoking outside and will be looking for places to throw their butts away. If sufficient ashtrays are not in place, then the remaining option is to throw them onto the floor. This can become a major problem as there are in the region of 60 million cigarettes smoked each day in South Africa. So you can imagine the number of little butts being thrown onto the floor of our country.

I noticed a new outdoor ashtray on the wall of a building the other day and was very interested and had to take a closer look. What I found was amazing. It is a wall mounted ashtray that is a bit larger that an A4 page and has 4 holes at the top where you can extinguish you cigarette and then drop it in. This allows smokers to dispose of cigarette butts easily and hygienically and helps with the solution of becoming a butt free South Africa. There was a website address on the ashtray that I had to have a look at and found out that the company behind these brilliant ashtrays is called Ash n Ad. They provide this ideal outdoor solution that addresses major concerns surrounding the new smoking legislation and better disposal of cigarette butts outdoors.

I highly recommend that if you are a property, restaurant, pub, shopping centre owner or just looking to have an ashtray Installed for your customers, go and have at look at Ash n Ad. They will be able to help you with wall mounted ashtrays and smoking shelters and they are trying to help make South Africa butt free.
